Surrey based cue maker George Heatley, owner of George Heatley Cues, can supply you with a top quality handmade cue or Cary out alterations to your current cue.
My names George and I have love for woodworking that started around 15 years ago when I attended South Thames college for three years to learn the craft of Luthiery (the making of stringed instruments). More specifically I wanted to make acoustic guitars but I went on to make other instruments along the way. I have played guitar since I was about 10 years old and I have always enjoyed working with my hands and creating things. Whilst in my second year at college with no previous woodworking experience I got curious as to how a snooker cue was made. I was playing a lot and learning the game as I still am today. So I set off attempting to make my first cue with English ash, ebony and a single splice of rosewood and maple veneer. I then over the years made quite a few more with only hand tools and no access to a lathe so it was put to the side whilst I focused on work. In that time I built all sorts of furniture, handmade kitchens, instruments and pretty much anything made from wood, I’d have a go at. So bringing it back to the present day, I’ve got my little workshop setup, I’ve invested in a lathe and I’ve got the mojo back to make things with my hands! This is a hobby of mine and I’m not looking to take on custom orders, I’m simply going to make cues to pretty standard specs and take on local repairs etc. This page is more of a way for me to document my work and perhaps be an insight into the way cues are made which might be of interest to some people. My most recent creation is making my first 3/4 cue below. There’s a bit of a story that goes along with it which I will post separately. Once again thank you for your support and hopefully you’ll enjoy following along my journey making and repairing all things cue related.
